Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, embarked on a two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad this Wednesday, leading a high-level delegation. The primary objective was to explore effective strategies for realizing joint infrastructure initiatives, particularly focusing on the ambitious Trans-Saharan road project.
This visit directly aligns with directives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the recent visit of the Chadian President to Algeria. It underscores a shared commitment to injecting a tangible and pragmatic dimension into bilateral cooperation, fostering development across both nations.
Upon his arrival Wednesday evening at Hassan Djamous International Airport in N’Djamena, Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), received a warm welcome. Chadian Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, along with several other Chadian officials, greeted the Algerian delegation.
The Algerian contingent comprised over 14 seasoned experts and engineers. This marks their second visit to the Republic of Chad, continuing the technical assessment initiated during their previous trip. Among the delegation were the CEOs of prominent Algerian enterprises, including “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Organization for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector stands as a cornerstone of cooperation between Algeria and Chad, serving as a crucial catalyst for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong interest in the Trans-Saharan road project, recognizing its strategic importance as a durable link connecting the economies of both countries and the wider region. Consequently, this visit was specifically designed to ensure the concrete implementation of two key sections of the Trans-Saharan road within Chadian territory, which are vital segments of this continental artery.
Leveraging the extensive experience gained by its national companies in constructing major road networks, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is dedicating its expertise and technical proficiencies to this transformative project. This collaboration is poised to bring about significant change and invigorate regional trade dynamics.
The visit is anticipated to yield concrete outcomes that will substantially strengthen Algeria-Chad cooperation in the critical areas of infrastructure and public works.
