  • a significant exit post-coronation?

Arsenal’s squad could see notable changes should the Gunners clinch the Premier League title, according to Silvestre. The North London side stands on the brink of their first championship since 2004, needing victories in their final two matches against already-relegated Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Manager Mikel Arteta could etch his name in history as the first Arsenal coach since Arsène Wenger to lift the coveted trophy. Their closest rivals, Manchester City, trail by two points and face challenging fixtures against an in-form Bournemouth and Europa League finalist Aston Villa.

Regardless of whether the London club secures a domestic title or a potential Premier League-Champions League double – with a possible final clash against Paris Saint-Germain – the club’s hierarchy will undoubtedly look to bolster Arteta’s roster this summer.

Several fringe players could be on the move, and former Arsenal defender Silvestre believes this could be the opportune moment for Gabriel Martinelli to depart. Martinelli, who has been with Arsenal since his first-team debut in 2019, is one of the club’s longest-serving players, nearing 300 appearances for the Gunners.

Despite featuring in over 100 matches in the past two seasons, the Brazilian international has largely been utilized as a substitute this year, making only ten league starts. This inconsistent playing time could prompt the 22-cap player to seek a fresh challenge away from North London.

  • silvestre’s take on the brazilian winger

“Gabriel Martinelli might look to force a transfer due to his lack of game time,” Silvestre commented. “As a Brazilian international, he desires to play regularly, and currently, Leandro Trossard is ahead of him in that regard. Therefore, he might explore options elsewhere, especially having been at the club for a considerable period. Leaving after winning the league would be the ideal timing for him, but he would need to find the right club, and Arsenal would then need to secure a suitable replacement. Otherwise, I don’t foresee any other position requiring reinforcement.”

  • a potential successor emerges

Arsenal has reportedly set its sights on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as the London club seeks to bolster its attacking options this summer. Silvestre identifies the young Frenchman as a prime candidate to step into the role should Martinelli decide to depart from the Emirates Stadium.

Silvestre elaborated: “If Martinelli were to leave, Bradley Barcola could certainly provide strong competition for Trossard. However, he still needs to refine certain aspects of his game. This is why he isn’t yet a regular starter in the Champions League, but he already possesses numerous impressive qualities. If he sharpens his finishing, he will evolve into a complete player, as his ability in one-on-one duels, space creation, assists, and key passes is already remarkable and incredibly difficult to contain.”
