Gabon: information site 241 faces suspension from high communication authority

The High Communication Authority (HAC) has taken decisive action, suspending the Info 241 news website. This move follows the publication of a controversial article titled: « Lanlaire exposes Oligui: €150,000 offered, compromising videos, bisexuality, 20 billion squandered… » The individual referred to as Lanlaire is Anges Landry Mbeng, a Gabonese influencer residing in France.
HAC asserts that the Info 241 article disseminated « injurious, scandalous, and exceptionally virulent statements concerning the President of the Republic and his family. » The authority maintains that the media outlet failed to adhere to legal provisions, leading to its indefinite suspension.
In response, Info 241 issued a statement, accusing HAC of acting erroneously « without even reviewing the article that prompted its latest impulsive decision. »
The situation has sparked extensive discussion across the nation. Numerous supporters of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema have publicly called for legal proceedings against Lanlaire and those implicated with him.
