Bénin government overhaul: Wadagni dissolves key agencies

President Romuald Wadagni has launched a sweeping institutional reform in Benin, targeting the dissolution of multiple state agencies inherited from his predecessor’s administration. This strategic move aims to streamline governance and redefine the country’s public sector landscape.

This bold administrative restructuring has already impacted critical sectors such as culture and tourism, reflecting a broader commitment to reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies across the state machinery.

The presidential decree marks the beginning of a deliberate strategy to reshape the government’s operational framework. Among the dissolved entities are the Agence de développement des arts et de la culture (Adac), Agence Bénin Tourisme, and the Agence nationale de promotion des patrimoines et de développement du tourisme (Anpt)—the latter being instrumental in positioning Benin as a premier tourist destination.

The overarching goal is to eliminate redundant structures, consolidate resources, and enhance administrative efficiency. While the decree establishes the foundation for tighter governance, the specifics regarding the transfer of responsibilities from these dissolved agencies—and the fate of their employees—remain under review by relevant authorities.

By taking decisive action in the early stages of his administration, President Wadagni has signaled his unwavering commitment to modernizing Benin’s state apparatus and fostering a more streamlined public sector.
