The formal transition of power in Bénin took place under solemn circumstances as the Constitutional Court announced the official results of the presidential election. Dressed in a dark suit and blue tie, Romuald Wadagni stood before the nation to take the oath of office, his right hand raised high, vowing to “uphold and defend the Constitution” and accept accountability for any breach of that pledge.
A cannon salute marked the conclusion of his oath, followed by his investiture as Grand Master of national orders. The Chief of Staff then presented the national flag, symbolizing the transfer of authority to the new administration.
In his inaugural address, Wadagni pledged to lead with integrity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law while safeguarding fundamental freedoms. He promised Béninois citizens inclusive economic growth, ensuring that prosperity reaches every household. On matters of national security, he firmly declared that Bénin would remain resolute against any threats to its stability.
Surrounded by regional leaders, including former presidents Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, Wadagni emphasized the importance of deepening regional cooperation. The ceremony was attended by 16 foreign delegations, with notable presence from France’s Minister of International Partnerships and neighboring countries such as Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger. While acknowledging the complexities of regional relations, particularly with Niger, he stressed the necessity of collaboration, stating, “We are bound to work together.”
