The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, delivered a firm message on Facebook: “We will continue the fight with renewed determination until this threat is completely eradicated.” His statement came in response to a deadly attack by an armed faction linked to the Islamist group Boko Haram on a military base near Barka Tolorom, situated on the Chadian shores of Lake Chad. The assault, which took place the day before the president’s announcement, resulted in 24 fatalities among Chadian soldiers.
