Progress accelerates on Cameroon’s Dja River bridge linking Southern regions
As of mid-2026, the landmark infrastructure project has reached a critical milestone with nearly all structural supports now in place. The China Harbour Engineering Company Cameroon team is working around the clock to meet the ambitious construction timeline.
By late June 2026, the project had achieved a major breakthrough with structural supports nearly 100% complete. The China Harbour Engineering Company Cameroon team is pressing forward to meet the tight construction schedule.
The latest progress includes comprehensive geotechnical surveys and 60% completion of execution studies. All 20 foundation piles are now set, while access road construction has begun on the Bissombo side. Key activities include reinforcing the culvert walls at PK 0+669, installing replacement materials after clearing at PK 0+818, and crushing 0/250 aggregates.
This infrastructure project involves building a 90-meter bridge across the Dja River and 3 kilometers of access roads. Once completed, it will transform transportation along the Assok-Ngombo corridor in the Dja-et-Lobo department of the Southern region. The total investment for the bridge project alone is estimated at 10.5 billion XAF, including taxes.
In addition to the bridge, the project includes 1,000 meters of access road improvements—500 meters on each side. The dual-carriageway will feature a 7-meter-wide pavement and 1.5-meter shoulders with double-layer surface treatment. The initiative also includes drainage structures: two 2.00×1.50-meter culverts, two 2.00×2.00-meter culverts, and protective embankments along both riverbanks.
