Cep 2026: cantines maintained for exam candidates in Benin

Government ensures school meals during CEP 2026 exams

The Benin government has taken a proactive step to support primary school students ahead of the 2026 Certificat d’Études Primaires (CEP) exams. In a recent official directive, Salimane Karimou, Minister of Pre-Primary and Primary Education, has mandated the uninterrupted operation of school canteens from June 1 to June 4, 2026.

Who benefits from this decision?

This measure applies exclusively to schools already participating in the National Integrated School Feeding Program (PNASI). For these institutions, the midday break will not disrupt students’ access to meals. Instead, they will continue to receive hot, nutritious lunches on-site, ensuring no disruption to their daily routine.

Why maintaining meals is crucial for exam success

Minister Salimane Karimou emphasized the importance of this decision, noting that many CEP candidates rely on these meals as a staple of their school day. Withdrawing this support during exams could lead to undue stress or hunger, potentially affecting their concentration and performance in the afternoon sessions.

In his communication to regional education directors, he stated:

« Removing this essential service during the most critical academic period would be a strategic misstep. For students accustomed to these meals, the absence could result in physical discomfort or distraction, undermining their exam readiness. »

Ensuring smooth operations across Benin

The continuation of this service nationwide requires meticulous planning. Regional directors have been instructed to verify food stock availability and confirm that service providers remain fully operational throughout the four-day examination period.

This move underscores the government’s recognition of school canteens not just as a social service, but as a vital component of academic achievement. By safeguarding students’ nutritional needs, the Ministry ensures that beneficiaries approach their exams with confidence, energy, and focus.

Parents of students in affected schools can rest assured: the meal program will operate as usual until the final exam papers are submitted on June 4, 2026.
