Exhibition in brussels highlights Mali humanitarian crisis

From January 23 to February 12, the Halles Saint-Géry in Brussels will host “In Their Eyes”, a powerful photographic exhibition documenting the humanitarian crisis in Mali. Organized by seven leading humanitarian organizations, this event aims to shed light on the daily struggles of over 6.4 million people affected by the ongoing conflict and its devastating consequences.

a collaborative effort by major humanitarian organizations

The exhibition is a joint initiative by Médecins du Monde, Action contre la Faim, the Norwegian Refugee Council, the Danish Refugee Council, International Medical Corps, the International Rescue Committee, and Première Urgence Internationale. These organizations are partnering with the European Union to bring this critical awareness campaign to life.

Tiécoura N’Daou, a Malian photographer, captured the striking images featured in the exhibition. Taken in September 2025 across the Gao and Mopti regions, the photographs document the realities faced by communities displaced by conflict. The exhibition’s unique approach focuses on showcasing the crisis “through the eyes of those who live it daily”, highlighting both the suffering of affected populations and the vital work of humanitarian workers on the ground.

the dire humanitarian situation in Mali

The organizers describe the situation in Mali as “alarming”. Over 400,000 people have been internally displaced, with women and children making up the majority. Additionally, 1.5 million people are grappling with food insecurity, while 1.5 million children under five suffer from acute malnutrition. In 2024 alone, more than 35,000 human rights violations were recorded across the country, underscoring the urgency of international attention and support.

This exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges in Mali and the critical need for continued humanitarian aid and global solidarity.
