Chad’s commitment to regional integration took center stage as President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno hosted a high-level delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC) on July 13. Leading the delegation was Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the current Chair of the organization’s Council of Ministers, who presented the newly appointed leadership of the CEEAC Commission: Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira (President) and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour (Vice-President).
During the meeting, President Déby made a decisive announcement: Chad will settle all outstanding financial contributions owed to the CEEAC. This move underscores N’Djamena’s resolve to meet its regional obligations and support the organization’s operational continuity. A presidential directive was issued to expedite the payment process while ensuring future contributions are made punctually.
The Chadian leader emphasized Chad’s unwavering support for the CEEAC, highlighting the organization’s pivotal role in stabilizing transitions in both Chad and Gabon, which paved the way for constitutional order. He reassured that Chad remains a steadfast partner, offering political, economic, and financial backing to the regional bloc.
CEEAC officials outlined their strategic priorities and the pressing challenges facing the organization, including accelerating economic integration. Key focus areas include boosting intra-regional trade, enhancing transportation infrastructure, facilitating the free movement of people and goods, and reinforcing the Central African Free Trade Zone.
Rosario Mbasogo Kung commended Chad’s renewed commitment, stressing that the CEEAC’s success hinges on collective action. She reiterated the bloc’s mission to foster peace, integration, prosperity, and solidarity across Central Africa.
