Chad: enhanced security measures ordered for tabaski celebrations

General Ali Ahmat Aghabache, Chad’s Minister of Public Security and Immigration, issued a directive on May 25, 2026, calling for heightened vigilance among security forces across the nation. The mandate specifically targets public spaces and religious sites in anticipation of the upcoming Tabaski holiday.

In an official communiqué, Minister Aghabache instructed all pertinent security agencies to implement comprehensive arrangements and maintain maximum alertness. The objective is to safeguard mosques, churches, and other places of worship, alongside bustling markets, government edifices, and all areas designated for public assembly throughout the Tabaski festivities.

The ministerial order underscores the imperative for these security protocols to be rigorously enforced and sustained for the entire duration of the celebratory period.

Tabaski, also known as Eid al-Adha, stands as one of the most significant Muslim observances, characterized by widespread collective prayers, ritual animal sacrifices, and numerous family and community gatherings. This festive season traditionally sees a considerable surge in attendance at places of worship and commercial hubs.

These crucial directives are being implemented amidst a prevailing regional environment marked by persistent security challenges. The reinforcement of these protective measures aims to preempt any potential incidents that could disrupt the peaceful observance of the holiday.
