Lubumbashi, Monday July 13, 2026 (Gabon News Agency) – The modernization of public services is no longer measured solely by the quality of infrastructure or the speed of procedures. In today’s world, a country’s ability to digitalize its public services has become a major indicator of competitiveness, transparency, and institutional efficiency.
Nkok, in the Ntoum commune, the opening of the National Centre for Telecommunications and Information Technology (NCTIT) marks an important step in Gabon’s digital transformation journey. The centre promises to accelerate the development of the country’s digital economy by providing cutting-edge technologies and expertise.
The NCTIT will focus on developing a national digital identity system, establishing a cybersecurity framework, and promoting e-government services to improve public administration and citizen engagement.
According to the Minister of Communications, the centre’s establishment is part of Gabon’s efforts to catch up with other African countries that have already made significant progress in their digital transformation journeys. The minister stated that Gabon aims to become a major player in the regional and global digital economy.
The project will also involve the development of an e-health system, an e-education platform, and a digital payment system, among other initiatives.
Experts warn that the digital transformation process is not just about technology, but also about changing the way governments and citizens interact with each other. They emphasize the need for effective institutional frameworks, robust regulations, and public awareness campaigns to ensure a successful transition.
The Gabonese government has promised to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation journey through training programs, access to finance, and other forms of assistance. The government also plans to establish a national digital literacy program to equip citizens with the necessary skills to participate in the digital economy.
The NCTIT’s establishment is seen as a major step forward for Gabon’s digital transformation journey, which aims to improve the quality of life for citizens, increase economic growth, and promote sustainable development.
