Kinshasa Dialogue: A Path Forward for the Democratic Republic of Congo

After meeting with Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, the Coalition Article 64 for constitutional order defense (C64) has returned to Bujumbura on July 9, 2026, after a brief deployment.

The leaders of the C64 have assured the public that they did not initiate any meeting with President Ndayishimiye, but rather accepted his invitation to discuss political dialogue and national cohesion. However, they made it clear that certain principles are non-negotiable.

The C64 leaders believe that a genuine dialogue can only be achieved by the renunciation of the proposed constitutional change, the release of political prisoners, the halt of politically motivated judicial proceedings, and the restoration of public freedoms. While they express interest in dialogue, they emphasize certain principles that cannot be compromised.
