The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared they have regained control across all active conflict zones, including areas targeted by the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims—an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group—in central and southern Mali.
In a recent official statement, the FAMA detailed ongoing clashes on Sunday near Anifif, a strategic location in the northeast, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The statement noted that the confrontations escalated following the arrival of additional fighters and supplies for the Azawad Liberation Front.
The army’s communiqué emphasized the resilience of its troops, stating: “Confronted with these renewed pressures, Malian military units responded with unwavering determination, sustaining combat operations throughout the day with exceptional discipline and courage.”
Reaffirming their commitment, the FAMA expressed absolute confidence in their ability to safeguard national sovereignty, protect civilians, and decisively defeat hostile forces.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front, had previously claimed control over Anfif after the resumption of hostilities. He also refuted reports of the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, stating that the commander remains actively involved in directing military operations in northern Mali.
