The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared that they have regained the upper hand in all conflict zones targeted by attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated faction, in central and southern Mali.
Strategic advances amid renewed clashes
In an official statement, the FAMA confirmed that fighting persisted on Sunday near Anifif, located in the northeast of the country, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The clashes intensified following the arrival of additional fighters and supplies for the Azawad Liberation Front.
The military spokesman emphasized that despite the enemy’s efforts to destabilize the region, Malian troops responded with unwavering resolve. « Our units maintained relentless pressure throughout the day, demonstrating exceptional discipline and bravery in the face of adversity, » the statement read.

The FAMA reiterated their confidence in the nation’s defense capabilities, vowing to safeguard Mali’s territorial integrity and protect its people from hostile forces. « We are fully committed to defeating these threats and ensuring lasting peace, » the announcement concluded.

The Azawad Liberation Front’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier asserted that the group maintained control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He also dismissed rumors of the death of the Front’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that the commander continued to oversee military operations in northern Mali.
