The Malian Armed Forces have declared a shift in momentum, asserting full operational control in previously contested regions where attacks by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM)—affiliated with Al-Qaeda—had escalated in the northern, central, and southern zones of the country.
Sustained military operations secure strategic gains
In a formal statement, the Malian military detailed ongoing engagements in Anifif, located in the northeastern sector, approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The area had witnessed intensified clashes following the arrival of additional personnel and military hardware dispatched to reinforce the MNLA’s position.
The armed forces highlighted their strategic response, emphasizing: « Against this renewed offensive, Malian troops demonstrated unwavering resolve, executing operations throughout the day with precision, professionalism, and valor. »
Renewed confidence in national defense capabilities
The military leadership reaffirmed its conviction in the Malian Armed Forces’ (FAMA) capacity to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, protect civilian populations, and dismantle hostile factions operating within its borders.
MNLA leadership denies territorial losses
In a separate statement, a spokesman for the MNLA, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, claimed operational dominance in Anifif after renewed hostilities. He also refuted rumors regarding the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that the commander remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
