Malian army secures safe passage for 940 supply trucks to Bamako

Military-led convoy delivers critical supplies to Bamako

The Malian Armed Forces successfully escorted a convoy of 940 civilian supply trucks from Kaïs to Bamako between June 23 and 29, ensuring safe passage along the Kaïs-Sandari-Diema-Bamako route despite heightened security concerns.

The operation began with 540 trucks departing from Kaïs to Sandari. A second military detachment from Diéma joined the convoy, integrating previously stranded vehicles into the procession. This expanded the fleet to 940 trucks, which continued toward Bamako without major incidents.

The convoy’s arrival in the capital marks a critical milestone in maintaining supply chains amid rising security threats along key transport corridors. The Kaïs-Bamako axis remains a vital lifeline, linking Bamako to western Mali and neighboring trade routes with Senegal and Mauritania.

Strategic corridor faces growing risks

This delivery comes at a time when the Kayes-Bamako route—essential for transporting fuel, food, equipment, and other essential goods—has seen increased security challenges. The military’s intervention underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding trade and preventing disruptions in Bamako’s supply networks.

By securing this critical route, the Malian Armed Forces have reinforced the stability of supply chains that serve as the economic backbone of the capital and surrounding regions.
