Led by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, a high-level military delegation from Morocco embarked on a working visit to Mauritania this week. The delegation was received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in the capital, Nouakchott, marking a significant step in bilateral defense relations.
The meeting, held in the presence of Ambassador Hamid Chabar of the Kingdom of Morocco, highlighted the commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic partnership. Following the audience with the Mauritanian head of state, General Berrid proceeded to the Ministry of Defense, where he was awarded the National Order of Merit (Commander Grade) by Minister of Defense Hanana Ould Sidi, on behalf of the Mauritanian President.
Later in the day, the Moroccan General and the Mauritanian Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. During the discussions, both sides reviewed the robust progress in defense cooperation, emphasizing the tangible outcomes achieved through their collaborative efforts. They reaffirmed their shared vision of a strong, mutually beneficial military alliance as a cornerstone of regional stability.
