The Royal Palace in Rabat played host this week to a high-level diplomatic engagement as Abdeltif Loudyi, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, welcomed French Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin. The meeting, held under the direct instructions of King Mohammed VI, reflects the deepening strategic partnership between Rabat and Paris.
The French delegation, led by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, arrived in Morocco to attend the 15th Morocco-France High-Level Meeting. This annual forum aims to expand and diversify bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on strengthening military and defense ties.
During the talks, both sides signed a technical arrangement and a memorandum of understanding focused on bilateral defense industry cooperation. The discussions also covered regional security challenges and explored new avenues to enhance military collaboration between the two nations.
The meeting took place amid a backdrop of strengthened political ties, highlighted by France’s recent official endorsement of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces and recognition of the Moroccaness of the Sahara. This historic shift underscores the evolving geopolitical alignment between the two countries.
The 15th edition of the Morocco-France High-Level Meeting saw the participation of 22 ministers from both nations, co-chaired by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and his French counterpart. The event culminated in the signing of eleven cooperation agreements spanning diverse fields, including the development of a Regional Express Rail (RER) network in Rabat and water resource management.
The defense discussions were further strengthened by the presence of General de Corps d’Armée, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), and Commander of the Southern Zone, who joined the bilateral talks to underscore the strategic importance of the meeting.
