N’Djamena gears up for 2026 music festival to unite Chad
The capital city of Chad is preparing for a landmark cultural event next year. The 2026 Music Day celebrations in N’Djamena, themed “Music as a bridge to social harmony”, will spotlight unity and national cohesion through inclusive cultural programming.
Launch ceremony draws crowds and officials
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Handicrafts, Abakar Rozzi Téguil, inaugurated the 2026 Music Day festivities at the Hilton roundabout in N’Djamena. The event brought together government officials, cultural stakeholders, performers and a diverse audience united in celebrating Chad’s rich musical heritage.
Speaking to the assembled crowd, the minister emphasized music’s pivotal role in building national unity. He framed the celebration as part of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno’s broader agenda to strengthen social cohesion across the country.
« This year’s theme underscores music’s universal power to foster dialogue, peace and shared belonging—especially in a world facing persistent challenges », Téguil stated.
A nationwide musical tour
The festivities will expand beyond N’Djamena through a nationwide tour covering all ten city districts and multiple provinces. The goal: to make cultural events more accessible and bring music directly to communities in public squares, neighborhoods and rural areas.
« Music belongs to everyone, not just concert halls. By taking performances to the people, we’re giving every citizen a voice in the national conversation », the minister explained.
More than entertainment—an economic engine
Organizers see the festival as more than a cultural showcase; it’s a strategic opportunity to boost Chad’s creative industries. By spotlighting local talent, they aim to stimulate economic growth and provide meaningful opportunities for young people across the country.
The 2026 Music Day promises vibrant performances, interactive workshops and community gatherings—all designed to highlight Chad’s musical diversity while reinforcing the values of solidarity and national unity.
