Nigerian military rescues 360 hostages from boko haram stronghold

The Nigerian military announced the successful rescue of 360 hostages on Sunday from a Boko Haram stronghold in the southern region of Borno State, located in the country’s northeast. The operation targeted the rugged Mandara Mountains, a known hideout for the insurgent group.

This development comes as Abuja intensifies its counterterrorism efforts. Last month, Nigerian authorities revealed that a coordinated operation with the United States resulted in the elimination of 175 ISWAP fighters, further weakening the jihadist network in the area.

Northern Nigeria continues to grapple with severe security challenges. Over the past decade, the region has been plagued by insurgency, widespread kidnappings for ransom, and illegal mining activities, all of which have severely undermined regional stability and security.

The humanitarian toll of the conflict remains staggering. United Nations reports indicate that the violence in the northeast has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of civilians. Despite repeated pledges from President Bola Tinubu to restore peace, many analysts argue that current measures have not yet delivered adequate protection for vulnerable communities.
