Senegal U15 Lionceaux: FSF clarifies 100,000 FCFA payments after victory

Senegal U15 Lionceaux team celebrating

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has addressed queries surrounding the 100,000 FCFA payments made to the U15 Lionceaux team following their triumph at the African School Football Championship in Zimbabwe.

The young champions, who clinched the title in early May, received the sum as part of a symbolic gesture during the trophy presentation ceremony in Dakar. The payment structure, however, sparked debate about its purpose and compliance with continental regulations.

FSF responds to payment controversy with official statement

The FSF issued a formal clarification, emphasizing that cash prizes are not permitted for individual players under the African Football Confederation (CAF) rules governing school competitions. The organization highlighted that the 300,000 USD awarded to the winning nation is allocated exclusively to structured development projects rather than direct monetary rewards.

According to the FSF, the funds are managed by the CAF in collaboration with Senegal’s Ministry of National Education and the FSF itself. These resources are earmarked for:

  • Procurement of sports equipment for schools
  • Development of training facilities
  • Implementation of football education programs

In their statement, the FSF confirmed that the 100,000 FCFA distributed to each player was solely intended to cover transportation expenses, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey back to their families after the competition.

Ensuring transparency in youth football development

The federation underscored its commitment to fostering sustainable growth in school football through transparent allocation of continental funding. By channeling resources into infrastructure and educational initiatives, the FSF aims to strengthen the foundation of youth football in Senegal while adhering strictly to CAF regulations.
