Senegal’s 2026 world cup squad revealed: stars and rising talents unite
Senegal has unveiled its 28-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring global stars Sadio Mané and Kalidou Koulibaly, defying injury concerns. Head coach Pape Thiaw addresses the challenges ahead, including a highly anticipated clash with France, as the Teranga Lions set ambitious goals for the tournament starting June 11 in North America.
The Teranga Lions’ coach has expressed optimism about the squad’s potential, emphasizing a balanced approach to tackle the tournament’s intensity. The team includes promising young talents like Lamine Camara (Monaco), Assane Diao (Como), Ibrahima Mbaye (PSG), and Bamba Dieng, who delivered strong performances for Lorient in the final stretch of the season.
«We aim high and expect great things in this World Cup,» stated Pape Thiaw during the official announcement. «The group is carefully structured to meet the demands of a competition of this magnitude.»
Tough group awaits Senegal
The Lions have been drawn into a challenging group alongside France, Norway, and Iraq. Their campaign begins on June 16 against Kylian Mbappé’s squad, a rematch of their historic 2002 World Cup opener—a match Senegal won against all odds.
While the French team carries historical significance, Thiaw dismissed the idea of a special focus on the match. «We have three opponents. Why single out France?» he questioned. «Norway and Iraq are equally important. Our relationship with France is rooted in history, but this is just another game.»
