Senegal’s political shift: new prime minister named after Sonko’s dismissal

Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reshaped the government’s top leadership on Monday, appointing Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo as the new Prime Minister. The move follows the dismissal of Ousmane Sonko, who had previously served as both mentor and head of government under President Faye since April 2024.
Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo brings extensive experience from his role as Secretary-General in the first cabinet formed by President Faye. His elevation to Prime Minister marks another significant development in Senegal’s recent political landscape.
The decision to replace Ousmane Sonko comes after growing tensions between the two leaders. The president’s action underscores a pivotal moment in Senegal’s evolving governance, as the nation navigates fresh challenges and policy directions.
