Solidarity from France continues to reach Mali despite challenges

The sixteenth general assembly of the support association for the village of Forgho in northern Mali took place recently, reaffirming a commitment that persists despite the nation’s ongoing struggles.

  • The association continues its work in Mali.

The gathering in Villefranche-de-Rouergue brought together dedicated members who reflected on the harsh realities facing Mali. “The situation in the country has worsened,” shared Marie-Jo Mennelet, president of the association, with palpable concern. The surge in jihadist violence, coupled with severe shortages of essential resources and rising prices, has intensified the hardship endured by local communities.

Yet, amid these adversities, the bond between the association and the people of Forgho and Bamako remains unbroken. The commitment to solidarity has not wavered, as the organization continues to deliver critical support. Despite no new sponsorships being initiated this year, existing ones have been maintained, thanks to the unwavering generosity of members and donors.

Funds raised have directly benefited communities through essential initiatives: supplying school materials for the new academic year, sustaining school canteens, covering exam fees, and providing medical supplies and seeds for agricultural recovery. Even cultural events, such as concerts and theatrical performances, contributed to the association’s resources when large gatherings were not feasible.

Financial resilience and community impact

The financial health of the association remains robust, driven primarily by donations, membership fees, and sponsorships. Expenditures were prioritized to strengthen educational support, healthcare access, agricultural assistance, and the Bamako orphanage, while also addressing urgent needs of families and educators.

The assembly concluded with unanimous approval of the reports and the renewal of the board members, followed by a warm gathering to celebrate their shared mission.
