In a heartfelt tribute, Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his deepest condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The spiritual leader’s death was announced this past Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko expressed his profound sorrow, honoring the guide’s legacy and extending his sympathies to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.
« With deep emotion and overwhelming sadness, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké,» Sonko wrote. « As the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, his spiritual guidance and warmth left an indelible mark on all who met him. »
The National Assembly leader also reflected on his personal encounters with the late guide during visits to Guinguinéo. « Each meeting was marked by his exceptional hospitality, kindness, and unwavering wisdom,» he recalled. « These moments will forever remain etched in my memory. »
In this time of mourning, Sonko offered his most sincere condolences to the grieving family, the Mouride community, the people of Guinguinéo, and the nation of Senegal. « May the Almighty, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » he prayed.
