Sonko mourns loss of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké in Senegal

In a heartfelt message on social media, Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his deep sorrow following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The respected religious figure passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Addressing the nation through a Facebook post, Sonko honored the late Khalife’s legacy and extended his sincerest condolences to the deceased’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Senegal.

« With profound sadness and heartfelt emotion, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote. « He was a guiding light for many, and his kindness, wisdom, and warmth left a lasting impression on all who met him. »

The Assembly President recalled his personal encounters with the late Khalife during visits to Guinguinéo, describing each meeting as a moment of warmth and spiritual connection.

« During these visits, he always received us with open arms, offering not just hospitality but a genuine sense of belonging, » Sonko shared. « His presence was a source of comfort and guidance for the community. »

In this time of mourning, he offered his deepest sympathies to the family of the departed leader, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, the religious community in Guinguinéo, and the entire Senegalese nation.

« May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » he concluded.
