Tchad launches digital citizenship training for 100 young people

In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, Chad is taking bold steps to shield its youth from the pitfalls of online spaces. The National Library in N’Djamena recently hosted the kickoff of a transformative workshop, bringing together 100 young Chadians to explore the pillars of digital citizenship and combat misinformation.

Empowering the next generation of responsible digital citizens

The event marks the official launch of the initiative « Advocating for a Safe and Inclusive Digital Space for Chadian Youth », a collaborative project spearheaded by House of Africa in partnership with the European Partnership for Democracy. The program aims to shift social media from a potential source of chaos into a constructive tool for progress.

Why digital literacy matters now more than ever

« A single message can either strengthen a nation or tear it apart, » warned the project coordinator during the opening ceremony, underscoring the gravity of the mission. As false narratives, hate speech, and digital manipulation spread faster than ever, they pose serious threats to social cohesion and national stability. This workshop is designed to equip young participants with the skills to navigate the digital world safely and intelligently.

From passive users to active guardians of truth

The training goes beyond basic digital skills. Participants are learning to master critical areas such as artificial intelligence ethics, cybersecurity, and fact-checking techniques. The goal? To transform these young people from passive consumers of digital content into proactive ambassadors of responsible online behavior within their communities.

The initiative sends a powerful message: the youth of Chad are no longer content to merely use digital platforms—they are determined to understand, control, and secure them for the greater good.
