On Saturday, July 26, 2026, a UNESCO Mali delegation led by Acting Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane attended the official launch of the 32nd national reforestation campaign in Bamako. The event, held at the Palais des Pionniers, was presided over by General Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the Transition President and Head of State.

The ceremony brought together government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, and youth and women’s associations. It also gathered environmental protection advocates, sustainable resource management experts, and climate change resilience champions.

The campaign, themed ‘Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship for a greener, more resilient Mali,’ reinforces national commitments to ecosystem restoration, desertification control, and natural resource preservation. A major focus is on citizen mobilization, particularly young people, as key players in the ecological transition. The initiative aims to plant 21 million trees across Mali during the rainy season, contributing to building a greener, more resilient nation.

By participating in this campaign, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali in raising community awareness, strengthening local actors’ capacities, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
