This Monday, following a detailed presentation of its annual performance review and a reiteration of its core mission, the National Mining Exploitation and Commercialization Company (SONEMIC) received high praise from the Minister of Mines, Fatimé Haram Acyl. She expressed profound satisfaction with the strategic vision, particularly highlighting the embrace of local innovations.
Firstly, local innovation emerged as a source of national pride. Minister Acyl articulated her astonishment, stating, “I was truly amazed because I did not expect to discover, upon my arrival, a software solution developed by Chadian experts that meticulously tracks all permits and seamlessly integrates with customs and tax authorities.” This groundbreaking tool, which already records 147 issued permits, represents a substantial leap forward for enhancing transparency and bolstering reliability within the mining sector.
Secondly, a forward-thinking strategic outlook is clearly defining SONEMIC’s direction. Minister Fatimé Haram Acyl underscored, “We have initiated a comprehensive mapping project to gather reliable data for specific provinces, aiming to preempt potential conflicts.” She further revealed ongoing discussions with international partners, including “the Emirates regarding water transformation” and plans for “an antimony refinery.” These ambitious projects collectively signify a determined effort to structurally reshape the national economy.
Finally, robust leadership and effective communication are recognized as vital catalysts for cohesion. The Minister stressed, “Excellent communication is paramount, and we must effectively convey the positive initiatives we are undertaking, foster a singular vision, move forward unitedly, and align with the Head of State’s policy.” She emphasized that this unified approach is indispensable for positioning the mining and petroleum industries as key drivers of job creation and sustainable development.
This annual assessment marks a pivotal juncture for SONEMIC; the focus on local innovation, meticulous resource mapping, and strategic international collaborations are paving the way for a profound transformation within the mining and petroleum sectors. “I believe there is ample work for everyone, and I am confident that Tchad stands to gain significantly,” the Minister concluded, urging all stakeholders to fully embrace their roles in this collective endeavor.
