UNESCO Mali delegation actively engages in launching the 27th Environment Fortnight in Bamako
The 27th edition of the Environmental Fortnight aims to consolidate national efforts to heighten community awareness about natural resource conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
The UNESCO Mali office played a pivotal role in the official inauguration of the 27th Environmental Fortnight, held in Bamako on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The delegation was led by Mr. Ali Mohamed Sinane, UNESCO Representative in Mali.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of State for Economy and Finance, Mr. Alousséni Sanou, representing the Prime Minister and Head of Government. The event brought together key government officials, environment ministers from AES member states (Burkina Faso and Niger), national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society, private sector stakeholders, and media professionals.
The 27th edition of the Environmental Fortnight seeks to unify national initiatives to deepen community engagement in protecting natural resources and fostering sustainable environmental practices.
Scheduled from June 5 to 15, 2026, this year’s program revolves around two critical themes:
The first theme, “Climate crisis and solutions for a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future,” aligns with World Environment Day.
The second, “Pastures: Recognize, Respect, Restore,” coincides with the International Day for Combating Desertification and Drought.
By participating in this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Malian Government’s efforts to raise awareness, promote environmentally responsible practices, and implement concrete actions that drive sustainable and resilient development.
