In celebration of the 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day, King Mohammed VI received a special message from former U.S. President Donald Trump. The correspondence underscored Washington’s unwavering stance on the Western Sahara dispute and its solid endorsement of Rabat’s autonomy proposal as the most viable path toward a lasting resolution.
«The United States stands firm on this issue: we acknowledge Morocco’s full sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorse the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a serious, credible, and realistic framework for a fair and sustainable solution,» Trump stated in his letter.
He emphasized that any alternative approach would merely sustain the existing deadlock, labeling it «unacceptable.» «This conflict must conclude now, and the United States will continue to drive progress toward that end,» he added.
Beyond geopolitical declarations, Trump’s message also celebrated the «250-year history of friendship and trust» between the two nations. He praised King Mohammed VI’s «wise leadership,» describing him as a «cornerstone of stability» in the region. The former president highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role in fostering peace, countering extremism, and safeguarding shared security interests, particularly through the Abraham Accords.
Strengthening bilateral ties, Trump announced plans to deepen collaboration in the Sahel region to enhance regional security. Economically, he directed his administration to prioritize joint ventures in sectors such as technology, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense—both within Morocco and the Western Sahara territory.
«Together, we will forge a new era of partnership built on mutual interests and shared prosperity,» Trump concluded.
