After two days of intense discussions in N’Djamena, the African Water Forum drew to a close under the banner ‘From Vision to Action.’ The event, held in Chad’s capital, brought together African leaders, financial partners, and water sector experts to tackle pressing challenges in water access and sustainable resource management across the continent.
Turning promises into progress for Africa’s water future
Farouk Mollah Banna, representing the World Bank Group, emphasized the critical need to move beyond commitments and deliver tangible results for communities. ‘The hopes of millions for reliable, equitable water access, food security, and environmental sustainability hinge on how swiftly and effectively these forum resolutions are implemented,’ he stated.
Lake Chad’s survival takes center stage in continental priorities
Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina made a compelling case for the preservation of the Lake Chad basin, framing it as a continental priority. ‘This ecosystem’s health is not just a concern for neighboring nations—it is vital for peace, economic growth, and food stability across Africa,’ he declared. With over 30 million people relying on its resources, he warned that the lake’s survival is an urgent matter affecting regional security and development.
The Prime Minister urged African and international stakeholders to elevate the Lake Chad crisis to the top of global agendas, stressing that ‘the time for action is now.’
Next steps: from resolutions to real-world impact
The organizers remain hopeful that the forum’s outcomes will swiftly translate into on-the-ground initiatives, ensuring lasting benefits for African communities.
