WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2026/2027 – Barcelona responded to an early Paris FC goal with a ruthless first-half display, securing a 5-2 victory on matchday one.

While PSG earned a valuable point in Madrid and Lyon cruised past Servette, Paris FC found the going tough against the defending champions. Barcelona, winners of four of the last six editions, made short work of the third French club on the opening day.

Paris FC stun Barcelona early

Against the odds, Paris FC took the lead through new signings Mariam Toloba and Evelyne Viens. The former Nantes player pounced on a poor Spanish touch to release the Canadian, who used her strength to get past Paredes and Martina before finishing past Cata Coll. A shock rippled through the Spanish stadium, but Barcelona quickly restored order. Forty minutes later, the scoreline had already turned into a rout (4-1).

After being called into action several times, Chavas was finally beaten by Kerolin (18th minute). Completely unmarked at the far post from a corner, Serrajordi pounced to put Barcelona ahead, before Graham Hansen delivered another assist, this time for Pajor. The Norwegian, who provided two assists, then scored the fourth Catalan goal just before the break. It was all too fast for the Parisians, who were technically outclassed.

Second half ends level

Unable to overturn the holders, Paris FC matched them over the remaining 45 minutes. Their pressing was more intense and better coordinated, preventing Barcelona from playing their game after the restart. But while the Parisian defence looked more solid, their attack still lacked a cutting edge. And after wasting chances, the hosts punished them.

From a fine piece of play by Sydney Schertenleib, Pajor completed her brace (70th minute). The Parisians, however, kept pushing and were rewarded. Clara Mateo had to try twice but scored moments later. The visitors held a 1-1 draw in the second half, but the first had been fatal. The worst is over for Paris FC. Now they must face Arsenal next week…
