Patrice Talon bids farewell to the people of Benin
In a heartfelt address released by Benin’s outgoing president on May 21, 2026, gratitude flows toward the nation that stood by him through a transformative decade.
In his farewell message released on May 21, 2026, outgoing President Patrice Talon expressed deep gratitude to the people of Benin “for the demanding path we bravely walked together over the past decade, for the challenges overcome, the reforms implemented, and the major projects launched to strengthen our nation and align public action with socioeconomic development.”
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, President-elect Romuald Wadagni will take the oath of office, officially beginning his mandate to guide Benin toward greater progress and collective and individual well-being.
To him, I extend my warmest wishes for success in the mission ahead over the next seven years.
As I prepare to step down, I want to express my heartfelt thanks and pride in what we have achieved together. The path was not always easy—it was often strewn with obstacles—but these challenges only strengthened our resolve and galvanized our efforts.
Today, with the world watching and expressing admiration, we can see the distance we have traveled. Our efforts and sacrifices are bearing fruit, a testament to the dedication of all Beninese—urban and rural, young and old, and those in the diaspora.
Serving as the nation’s leader has been an immense honor. My gratitude to Benin and each of you is boundless.
I must also recognize the invaluable role of a remarkable woman who stood by me with unwavering affection and patience, whose guidance was instrumental: my wife, Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi Talon.
To all who surrounded me with love, friendship, and support—thank you for enabling me to give my best.
As I hand over the reins to President Romuald Wadagni, I am confident that under his leadership, Benin will continue to make great strides toward its destiny as a great nation. With our achievements behind us and an unshakable will to advance further, I believe we will unite around him to forge new paths of progress, fostering well-being, pride, and prosperity for all.
Long live the Republic!
Long live Benin!
