Burkina Faso journalist wins 17th Galian award in 15 years

Ouagadougou played host to the 29th edition of the Galian Awards on June 19, 2026, celebrating outstanding achievements in Burkinabè journalism. Among the distinguished honorees was Sié Frédéric Kambou, a journalist with Burkina 24, who claimed the Ministry of Health’s Special Prize in the Online Press category.

The award recognizes his groundbreaking report titled “Healthcare in Burkina Faso: Breaking Free from Privilege”, published on December 26, 2025. Through meticulous on-the-ground reporting, Kambou shed light on critical health sector reforms, including the slashing of medical test costs and the elimination of dialysis session deposits in public health facilities.

Overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving his trophy, Kambou took the opportunity to dedicate the award to his entire team at Burkina 24.

“I’m deeply moved by this recognition. I share this honor with every member of the Burkina 24 team and our editors who inspire us daily. It wasn’t an easy journey, but with perseverance, I’ve achieved this milestone. This is my first award, and I couldn’t be happier. I urge all journalists to strive for excellence and chase their goals without hesitation.”

The accolade not only underscores Kambou’s professionalism and dedication but also highlights the collective effort at Burkina 24 to deliver high-quality, citizen-focused journalism.

The ceremony also honored Aïcha Diombélé/Kabré from RTB Radio in national languages with the 2026 Super Galian Award. For Burkina 24, Kambou’s victory further cements the media outlet’s reputation for responsible and top-tier journalism.
