N’Djamena opens investigation after viral video of minors in military attire
The Prosecutor’s Office in N’Djamena has launched a formal investigation following the circulation of a video on social media showing five minors dressed in military uniforms and making critical remarks about the head of state and state institutions.
The five minors were questioned by judicial police in the presence of their parents, in line with juvenile justice procedures. The prosecution stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that all evidence must be reviewed objectively, respecting the presumption of innocence and due process.
Legal balance between protection and accountability
While emphasizing that minors require special protection, the judicial authority stressed that this does not rule out potential responsibility. It highlighted the need to balance education, rehabilitation, and the preservation of public order.
Media outlets and social media users were urged to protect the anonymity and dignity of the minors by refraining from sharing content that could lead to their identification.
Investigation turns to possible adult involvement
The inquiry is now focusing on the potential involvement of adults who may have organized, encouraged, or exploited these young people. The prosecution issued a strong warning against any exploitation of youth and reminded the public that social media is not a lawless space.
