Luther Meka condemns Mamadou Mota’s French as ‘an assault on Ronsard and Lamartine’s language’

Communications director of Cameroon’s ruling party, André Luther Meka, expressed outrage over the language proficiency displayed by Mamadou Mota, Vice-President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), during a recent television appearance.

The controversy erupted following Mota’s June 28, 2026 appearance on Equinoxe TV’s La Vérité en Face program, where he defended Maurice Kamto’s return to the MRC presidency amid internal party dissent.

In a social media post, Luther Meka criticized Mota’s French, stating: ‘I watched with great interest the June 28 episode of La Vérité en Face. I am appalled by Mamadou Mota’s massacre of the French language and his impertinence in morphosyntax and conceptual mastery. This was a full assault on the linguistic heritage of Ronsard and Lamartine – the absolute pinnacle of mediocrity displayed on television last Sunday.’
