FBI highlights Morocco’s pivotal role in securing 2026 World Cup

The FBI’s Deputy Director, Christopher Raia, visited the International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC) this week to assess security preparations for the 2026 World Cup. The high-level meeting gathered law enforcement and security officials from all participating nations.

During his visit, Raia met separately with representatives from Morocco’s Direction générale de la sûreté nationale and Direction générale de la surveillance du territoire, the agencies leading the country’s security efforts for the tournament. He commended their contributions, emphasizing that the FBI views Morocco as a highly reliable and globally respected partner in security coordination.

In a speech to international security delegates at the IPCC, Raia underscored the critical need for cross-border intelligence sharing to safeguard the 78 matches scheduled across nearly two weeks. Without robust multilateral cooperation, he warned, such an extensive security operation would be impossible to execute successfully.

The FBI official also pointed to a rise in foiled threats on U.S. soil, attributing this progress to the accuracy of shared intelligence and the steadfast support of allied nations. He specifically praised Morocco’s proactive role in strengthening global security protocols ahead of the World Cup.
