France and Morocco strengthen economic ties with €15 billion partnership

At a high-profile gathering in Paris, French Minister of Foreign Trade Nicolas Forissier highlighted the robust economic partnership between France and Morocco as a shining example for the African continent. Speaking at the opening of the France-Morocco Economic Day, organized in collaboration with the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Moroccan Embassy in France, Forissier addressed an audience of nearly 300 business leaders, investors, and policymakers.

An exceptional partnership built on shared values

Forissier described the bilateral relationship as « exceptional », underscoring the shared vision both nations hold for international trade. « Our countries believe that trade is a powerful engine for success and development, especially for young people, » he stated. « When conducted fairly, it creates win-win opportunities that benefit both sides. »

The minister emphasized that the alignment of values and shared perspectives between France and Morocco has positioned their economic relationship as a benchmark for the rest of Africa. « This mutual understanding and commitment to common principles strengthens our partnership and makes it a model for the continent, » he added.

A record-breaking trade volume

In 2025, bilateral trade between the two nations surged past €15 billion—a historic milestone that has doubled in less than a decade. Forissier described this achievement as « unprecedented » and a testament to the vitality of the economic ties between France and Morocco.

The surge in trade reflects a strategic alignment where Morocco accelerates its industrialization, modernizes its economy, and diversifies its sectors, while France increasingly embraces products « Made in Morocco ». The minister also pointed to the growing presence of French investments in Morocco, citing Safran’s recent €600 million investment in a new plant in Casablanca as a prime example.

Mutual investment and human capital at the core

France remains the leading foreign investor in Morocco, while Morocco has become the top African investor in France. Forissier called for deeper collaboration through co-investments and cross-border ventures to further solidify the economic partnership. « The future of our relationship must be built not only on goods and services but also on investing in people, » he asserted. « Training, knowledge-sharing, mobility, and youth empowerment are essential to nurturing the next generation of leaders who will carry forward this alliance. »

The minister also spotlighted the ambitious economic agenda forged during French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Morocco in October 2024, where a reinforced partnership framework was established. « This partnership is anchored in political excellence, » Forissier noted. « In a world marked by uncertainty, it is crucial to build stability and resilient partnerships that secure supply chains and open new opportunities for our businesses. »

A platform for future collaboration

The France-Morocco Economic Day, supported by key institutions such as the Moroccan Investment Development Agency (AMDIE), the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco (CFCIM), and Business France, serves as a vital platform for businesses on both sides to explore new avenues of cooperation. The event underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering a dynamic and inclusive economic relationship.
