Burkina Faso harnesses digital tools to strengthen national solidarity

The Dɛmɛ Sira digital solidarity platform launch ceremony in Ouagadougou

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – The government has taken a decisive step toward modernizing public social policies through the official launch of the Dɛmɛ Sira digital platform. This initiative, unveiled at a ceremony in Ouagadougou, marks a significant milestone in leveraging technology to mobilize national solidarity.

The launch event was led by Lieutenant-Colonel Passowendé Pélagie Kabré/Kaboré, Minister of Family and Social Solidarity, alongside Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications, who served as the event’s patron.

Named Dɛmɛ Sira—meaning “the path of solidarity” in Moore—this digital platform is designed to streamline citizen contributions to social and humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable populations. Accessible to all Burkinabè citizens, whether residing locally or abroad, the platform seeks to establish a direct, transparent, and efficient channel for public solidarity participation.

The platform is integrated into the official website of the Ministry of Solidarity and reflects the government’s broader strategy to modernize public action through digital innovation. During the event, Minister Kabré/Kaboré emphasized that Dɛmɛ Sira embodies the authorities’ commitment to fostering a more inclusive solidarity model, leveraging the transformative potential of digital technologies.

The initiative also highlights the growing role of digital public platforms across Africa, which are increasingly used not only for administrative services but also as tools for citizen engagement and social cohesion.

Key objectives of the Dɛmɛ Sira platform

  • Enhancing citizen engagement: By providing a digital space for contributions, the platform encourages greater public participation in social initiatives.
  • Improving transparency: Digital tools ensure that contributions and their allocation are tracked with greater accuracy, fostering trust in public initiatives.
  • Expanding accessibility: The platform is designed to be user-friendly, allowing all citizens—including those in the diaspora—to contribute effortlessly.
  • Strengthening social cohesion: By connecting citizens around shared values of solidarity, the platform reinforces community bonds in a challenging socio-political landscape.

A new era for public solidarity in Burkina Faso

The introduction of Dɛmɛ Sira signals a shift toward more dynamic, technology-driven approaches to addressing social challenges. By integrating digital solutions into public policy, the government is not only modernizing its operations but also empowering citizens to play an active role in shaping a more resilient society.

This initiative underscores Burkina Faso’s commitment to innovation and its determination to harness digital tools for the greater good, setting a precedent for other nations in the region.
