The Head of State recently met with Libreville’s Mayor, Eugène Mba, to review local governance progress, assess municipal performance targets, and strengthen state-local coordination to better serve residents.

The Mayor presented a comprehensive progress report on the implementation of his assigned roadmap since taking office. He also shared the newly structured municipal organization and outlined key priorities for revitalizing the capital’s management approach. Discussions centered on transformative projects designed to reshape Libreville’s urban landscape.
Key initiatives include reorganizing urban spaces, developing modern parking facilities, expanding green and botanical areas, addressing unauthorized public land occupation, and enhancing neighborhood infrastructure to elevate living standards. A major focus was placed on modernizing municipal administration through digital service transformation.
This initiative aims to streamline citizen processes, elevate public service quality, boost transparency in municipal operations, secure revenue collection, and significantly increase the city’s own income sources. The President emphasized accelerating urban sanitation efforts, highlighting waste management challenges. He stressed that cleanliness is a cornerstone requirement for any modern capital.
Significant investments will be required to improve waste collection, transportation, processing, and recycling to ensure a healthy environment for residents. The President underscored his vision for a modern, attractive Gabon, asserting that Libreville, as the country’s showcase, must meet international standards in urban planning, local governance, and public service excellence.
He urged the Mayor to demonstrate rigor, innovation, and efficiency in project execution. This meeting reflects the President’s commitment to positioning local governments as pivotal development drivers and prioritizing citizen welfare in public initiatives.
