Historic direct flight connects Casablanca to los angeles

Morocco has just marked a turning point in its aviation history. Royal Air Maroc (RAM) inaugurated a groundbreaking direct route between Casablanca and Los Angeles, becoming the first African carrier to establish a non-stop connection between the continent and the U.S. Pacific coast.

A milestone flight takes to the skies

The inaugural service departed Mohammed V Airport at 04:00, completing the 12-hour journey without layovers. This historic flight not only strengthens transatlantic ties but also coincides with two major celebrations: the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American friendship and the kickoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Atlas Lions are set to compete.

Casablanca’s rise as a global aviation hub

Hamid Addou, Chief Executive Officer of RAM, emphasized the significance of this launch. “This direct link between Casablanca and Los Angeles represents a leap forward for both our airline and Africa’s connectivity. It reinforces our commitment to placing Morocco at the forefront of international travel.”

A strategic schedule for travelers

The new service operates three times weekly—on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—using state-of-the-art wide-body aircraft. Departures from Casablanca are scheduled for 04:00, arriving in Los Angeles at 08:20 local time. Return flights depart California at 10:20, landing the following day in Casablanca at 05:25.

This initiative aligns with RAM’s long-term growth plan, agreed upon with the government in July 2023. Its objectives include bolstering Casablanca’s position as a leading air transit hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the Americas, while catering to the needs of the Moroccan diaspora, tourists, business travelers, and football fans heading to the 2026 World Cup.

With this addition, RAM now offers direct flights to five major North American destinations: New York, Washington, Miami, Montréal, and Toronto, further solidifying its presence in the region.
