JNIM denies death of second-in-command after alleged Mali airstrike

Close associates of the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) have categorically refuted reports alleging the death of Sidna Ag Hita, a senior leader and second-in-command within the organisation. These claims emerged following a statement by the Africa Legion (Corps africain) about a targeted airstrike in the Diabali region of central Mali on the night of May 27th.

In a strong rebuttal, sources within JNIM confirmed to local media that Ag Hita remains alive and unharmed. They emphasised that no credible evidence supports the death reports and that the group has not issued any statement confirming his injury or demise.

The Africa Legion had earlier released a statement claiming its forces conducted an airstrike and rocket fire on a rural encampment linked to JNIM. According to the communiqué, intelligence at the time suggested Ag Hita was present at the targeted site during the operation.
