The political landscape in Sénégal is heating up as Khady Diène Gaye launches a fierce counterattack against Abdourahmane Diouf. The dispute centers on controversial claims regarding Ousmane Sonko and a purported agreement on national debt restructuring.
Khady Diène Gaye has strongly refuted allegations made by Abdourahmane Diouf concerning Ousmane Sonko’s stance on debt restructuring. The former Sports Minister, who previously shared cabinet responsibilities with Diouf, expressed total shock at his assertions. Diouf had claimed that the former Prime Minister, who now presides over the National Assembly, had given his consent to a debt restructuring plan.
In a highly charged response, the prominent Pastef official accused Abdourahmane Diouf of spreading outright fabrications. “Dramane has failed everywhere! And now, he resorts to grotesque lies!” she declared, expressing her utter disbelief upon learning that the minister was attributing such an agreement to Ousmane Sonko.
A highly personal political clash in Sénégal
The criticism did not stop at policy disagreements. Khady Diène Gaye launched direct personal attacks against Abdourahmane Diouf’s professional history. She asserted that Diouf had repeatedly failed in his various endeavors to establish himself back in the country, specifically pointing to his unsuccessful attempt to pass the bar exam during the 2007-2008 period.
Furthermore, the former minister accused Abdourahmane Diouf of entering the political arena for purely selfish reasons, stating that he chose politics to serve his own interests rather than the public good. Despite the harsh exchange, Khady Diène Gaye concluded her address by urging Pastef supporters to stay united. She called on all patriots to remain focused on achieving a sovereign, prosperous, and equitable Sénégal.
