Libreville’s mayor meets Gabon’s president to discuss urban development

Gabon’s Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met yesterday with Libreville’s mayor, Eugène Mba, at the Palais Rénovation. This was their second official encounter following their first discussion on April 28, part of an ongoing effort to assess local governance performance, track progress on assigned objectives, and strengthen coordination between national and municipal authorities.

During the meeting, Mayor Mba submitted a comprehensive progress report on his administration’s initiatives since taking office on April 24. He also presented the newly revised organizational structure of Libreville’s city hall. The discussions covered ambitious urban transformation projects designed to modernize the capital, including the reorganization of public spaces, construction of modern parking facilities, development of green and botanical areas, and measures to curb unauthorized occupation of public land. Digitalization of municipal services and enhancement of waste management infrastructure were also key topics.

President Oligui Nguema emphasized the urgent need to accelerate urban sanitation efforts, highlighting cleanliness as a top priority for the government. He stressed that improving household waste collection systems must be a central focus of the mayor’s agenda moving forward.

Reaffirming his vision for a progressive and attractive Gabon, the president underscored that Libreville, as the nation’s gateway, must set a global benchmark in urban planning, local governance, and public service excellence. He called on Mayor Mba to lead with unwavering discipline, creative problem-solving, and operational efficiency to ensure the successful implementation of all ongoing projects.
