In the heart of Dakar, the Moroccan embassy’s residence played host to a landmark event on July 14. The occasion? The unveiling of a captivating photographic exhibition titled Morocco–Senegal: a shared history, a common destiny. The gathering brought together political, diplomatic, and media figures, all united by a shared mission: to celebrate the depth of ties between the two nations.
Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Bakary Sarr, Senegal’s Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, Amadou Tidiane Wone, presidential advisor, and Lamine Niang, Director-General of the newspaper Le Soleil. The exhibition showcased a rich collection of archival photographs, newspaper clippings, and historical documents, primarily sourced from Le Soleil’s archives, tracing the evolution of cooperation between Dakar and Rabat over decades.
From history to heritage: preserving a legacy
For Morocco’s ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, the exhibition was far more than a nostalgic stroll down memory lane. It was a call to action. “This showcase allows us to revisit the defining moments of an exceptional relationship, but also to recognize the responsibility we share in safeguarding this heritage and passing it on to future generations,” he remarked. “It is our duty to nurture this bond, enrich it, and ensure its continuity—a legacy entrusted to us by our monarchs, Senegalese presidents, and all those who have contributed to its foundation.”
Education and exchange: the pillars of cooperation
Lamine Niang underscored the exhibition’s role in highlighting the tangible outcomes of this partnership. “This relationship proves that authentic African solidarity is possible when rooted in trust and a shared vision, transcending mere interests,” he stated. “Today, thousands of Senegalese students pursue higher education in Moroccan universities, while Moroccan students contribute to the vibrancy of Senegal’s higher education institutions.”
Beyond its historical significance, the exhibition served as a vivid testament to the resilience of Morocco-Senegal relations. It underscored a commitment to fostering even closer cooperation, one that looks resolutely toward the future while honoring the past.
