Morocco joins Gaza stabilization force with historic peace initiative
The Kingdom formalizes its commitment to regional security through a landmark agreement establishing its participation in the international stabilization mission in Gaza.
The Kingdom of Morocco has taken a decisive step toward reinforcing regional stability by signing a landmark agreement to participate in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) deployed in Gaza. This historic commitment, formalized during high-level discussions in Rabat, underscores Morocco’s unwavering dedication to international peace initiatives.
Historic diplomatic engagement for peace in Gaza
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of Morocco’s National Defense Administration, where high-ranking officials from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and government representatives met with Nickolay Mladenov, the UN’s Special Coordinator for Peace in Gaza. The delegation also included key figures from the Gaza Peace Council and the ISF command structure.
The discussions were led by Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, alongside Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government responsible for National Defense Administration. Both officials were joined by General de Corps d’Armée, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, alongside the Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie.
Morocco’s strategic contribution to regional security
During the meeting, Moroccan representatives emphasized the Kingdom’s deep commitment to peace, cooperation, and international solidarity. The participation in the ISF, they noted, will play a pivotal role in fostering peace and security in the Middle East, aligning with the country’s long-standing tradition of contributing to UN peacekeeping missions.
Morocco’s involvement will include the deployment of senior officers from the Royal Armed Forces to the ISF joint command, as well as personnel from the Royal Gendarmerie and the National Security Directorate (DGSN). Additionally, the Kingdom will establish a military field hospital as part of its humanitarian contribution to the mission.
International recognition of Morocco’s peacekeeping expertise
Representatives from the Gaza Peace Council and the ISF command expressed strong appreciation for Morocco’s participation, highlighting the Kingdom’s proven expertise in peacekeeping operations. The agreement signed on this occasion establishes the legal and operational framework for Morocco’s involvement, ensuring a structured and effective contribution to the stabilization efforts in Gaza.
The accord reflects a shared vision of building a sustainable climate of peace and security, combining humanitarian and security actions to address the region’s pressing challenges.
Strengthening ties with the international community
Morocco’s decision to join the ISF is rooted in its commitment to multilateral initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts and promoting stability. The Kingdom’s involvement is seen as a testament to its leadership in regional security and its ongoing efforts to support international peacebuilding efforts.
The agreement also aligns with the high directives issued by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which emphasize Morocco’s role in advancing peace, security, and social progress in the region. By participating in the ISF, Morocco reaffirms its position as a key player in global peacekeeping and conflict resolution.
