The Motards du Faso returned to Ouagadougou on August 11, 2026, after completing a 3,000 km regional motorcycle tour that took them through Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. Departing the capital on August 2, the twenty-strong group combined adventure with a mission: raising awareness about road safety and the vital importance of helmet use.
The journey was more than just a sporting challenge—it was a testament to resilience, camaraderie, and regional solidarity. The first leg, from Ouagadougou to Accra, Ghana, lasted nearly 23 hours, including rest stops, pushing both riders and machines to their limits.
Abel Aziz Konaté, President of the Motards du Faso, emphasized the tour’s purpose: “This regional initiative, the Grand Tour 2026, reflects our commitment to fostering connections with fellow motorcyclists across West Africa. It builds on the success of our previous 72 Hours of Burkina event in September 2025, where we invited riders from neighboring countries to join us.”
The group’s polished helmets and sleek bikes became symbols of unity and shared passion, as they crossed borders and cultures. Their route took them from Burkina Faso through Paga into Ghana, onward to Togo, then Benin, and finally Nigeria, where they engaged with local communities and promoted safe riding practices.
Promoting helmet use: a life-saving mission
Throughout the journey, the Motards du Faso made road safety a priority. They shared their message with riders and commuters alike, stressing that helmet use should be a natural habit—not enforced by law. “We fully support the Ministry of Security’s efforts to make helmets mandatory,” Konaté stated. “But real change happens when people choose safety willingly. We want every road user to understand that wearing a helmet is not just about compliance—it’s about protecting life.”
The tour also highlighted the warmth and hospitality of the communities they visited. From urban centers to rural villages, the riders were met with open arms, reinforcing the bonds that tie West African countries together.
