In a decisive call to action, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party, has urged his supporters to abandon the use of mocking nicknames and derogatory remarks aimed at government officials. He emphasized that such behavior undermines productive political discourse and should be replaced by a focus on substantive ideas and policy proposals.
Rallying for constructive engagement
During a recent address at the Dakar Arena, Sonko cautioned his followers against falling into the trap of inflammatory language, warning that such provocations could lead to unnecessary legal complications and even imprisonment. The Patriotes leader stressed that the path to meaningful political change lies not in personal attacks but in elevating the quality of debate through constructive proposals and well-reasoned arguments.
Prioritizing grassroots mobilization
Sonko also outlined a strategic shift for the party, urging members to prioritize ground-level activism. He called for an intensified nationwide campaign to strengthen and expand the party’s grassroots presence, ensuring a sustainable and resilient political base. Highlighting the importance of organizational growth, he underscored the need to enhance political and intellectual training for activists, reinforcing the party’s commitment to democratic principles.
